Specialization: Nanomaterials and hybrid nanostructures for renewable energy applications, Photonics, Plasma deposition of thin films, Advanced physical and physicochemical characterization of thin films
At the NANOCON´22 conference Dr. Štěpán Kment will present the lecture "Defect Engineering for Highly Active Semiconductor Photocatalysts" at the Session B Industrial and Environmental Applications of Nanomaterials.
Personal Background and Education:
Štěpán Kment received his Ph.D. in solid state physics and photoelectrochemistry in 2010 from the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague, Czech Republic. He then spent one year as a postdoctoral research fellow at Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Nebraska – Lincoln, Lincoln, NE, USA.
Since 2011 he has been working at the Regional Centre of Advanced Technologies and Materials of Palacky University, Olomouc, Czech Republic. Currently, he is a leader and senior researcher in the group of Photoelectrochemistry. In April 2014 he passed out a studying/research visit at Prof. Schmuki’s group, Department of Materials Science, Institute for Surface Science and Corrosion, Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (LKO) in Germany.
Research Interests:
The research of Štěpán Kment is focused particularly on Studium of functional properties of materials for renewable energy and photonic applications (solar cells, photoelectrochemistry, photocatalysis, etc.); Plasma deposition of thin functional films and nanostructures (pulsed and HIPIMS magnetron sputtering, atmospheric and vacuum PECVD methods) – α-Fe2O3,TiO2, ZnO, FeS2, BiVO4, IrO2 and their doped versions (main dopants nitrogen, tantalum, iron, niobium); Chemical preparation (sol-gel and electrochemical anodization) of active nanostructures with different morphologies – single atoms, 0D quantum dots and nanospheres, 1D nanotubes and nanorods, 2D films and nanoflakes, and 3D brunched nanostructures; Advanced physical and physicochemical characterization of thin films (Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, Auger electron spectroscopy, XPS, UV/Vis spectrophotometry, FTIR, AFM, SEM, GDOES, (photo)electrochemistry).
